Nona Gaprindashvili

Nona Gaprindashvili was born on May 3, 1941, in Zaïdanshuki, Georgia, and she made history by becoming the first woman to achieve the title of International Grandmaster (IGM) in 1978.

Her journey in the world of chess has been marked by a series of impressive accomplishments. From a young age, Gaprindashvili displayed a natural talent for chess and swiftly advanced through the ranks of competition. Along the way, she secured victory in the Women's World Chess Championship five times. Furthermore, she showcased her prowess by successfully competing against male players, an achievement that solidified her status as an exceptional player.
